Sunset over the Dubai skyline as seen from my kitchen porch; the Burj Khalifa in the distance.

When I look at this picture, the first thing that comes to mind is “stillness.” No movement. Nothing moves. The beauty of a moment is captured forever in stillness. No wind. No plane on landing or taking off. No cars passing by. No kids riding their bikes heading for home, the “dookan” – the neighborhood little store, or their friend’s house. No hum of the AC compressor. No birds settling for the night. No crickets just getting started. No phones ringing. No conversation. Just stillness. Not even quiet. Stillness. The whole world pauses. I think even my heart stops for that split-second. In this moment I breathe in the sunset. In this moment I wonder if child #4 saw this same sunset 4 hours earlier. In this moment I wonder will my sister see this same sunset in 12 hours time.

When I look at this picture I feel the stillness.
